Jared's creation

Jared was watching a kid show on Friday and they were making their own recipes. He asked me if he could make his own. I told him not today but maybe tomorrow. Of course he continued to beg and plead and I continued to say, "not today." Finally he realized it wasn't going to happen and let it go. I thought I had dodged the bullet and he would forget about it. Well, I was wrong. Yesterday afternoon he asked again if he could make his recipe now. I had no good reason to say no and I was kind of interested in exactly what he was going to make and how. So, I agreed and we went to the kitchen to start the creativity. I asked him what we needed and he said flour, salt, cheese, and pretzels. Okay weird. So, I got out my mixing bowl and flour and we started. I asked him how much flour and he said, "4 ounces. No. 5 ounces." Hmmmm, I thought. Then I showed him the one cup measuring cup and said, "Is this right?" He agreed and I put one cup flour in the bowl. I asked what was next and he said butter. I asked how much and he said something ridiculous that I can't remember and we ended up with 2 tbsp. or so. Then he said water and we put one cup water. Then he said an egg and we put one egg. He wanted another egg but I told him one was enough. Then I said, "Is that all?" He said no and asked me to open the cupboard where the spices are. (I was hoping he had changed his mind about the cheese and pretzels.)He pointed to the cinnamon-sugar shaker and said that. So, I sprinkled some on top and he said that was it. We stired it up, with his and Brittany's help. He then said we needed to put it on a red plate and cook it in the microwave. Then he spotted some chocolate chips on the counter and said we needed to put those on top, along with some sprinkles he saw in the cabinet and some frosting in a spray can (like cheese whiz.) Suddenly he said that we were making a birthday cake for Brittany and asked Brittany if she was happy we were making her a birthday cake. She said she was, of course. So he and Britt put on chocolate chips, and sprinkles and if I would have let him, some frosting, but I told him we should wait til after it cooked. I asked him how long we should cook it and he asked me what I thought. I said let's start with 3 minutes. He agreed. We put it in the microwave on medium for 3 minutes and he was very excited. After it was "cooked" we took it out and put the frosting on. We then let it cool and and cut it up and we all had a piece. Jared was so proud of himself and although it is not something I will make again, or eat for that matter, it was so fun to listen to him make it up and even better to see the joy he got out of making it. And what a sweet brother to think of his sister's upcoming birthday. Jared is a very sweet boy and so creative. He definitely adds so much joy to my life!
