I'm ready for a challenge

So it seems that running has become quite the thing to do in my ward and although I have never been a runner, I do consider myself athletic (when I'm not overweight) so I'm joining my dear friend for a bit of a challenge. Laurenda has set a date of running (that's right I said running) a 5k in October. I have been tossing the idea around and decided this is the perfect motivation for me to get my behind in gear. So, sweet Laurenda has offered for me to come to her house 3 times a week and start my training. We call it the "basement" (aka gym.) Today marks my first "training session." I walked for 15 mins. Can I get an applause? The goal is to start small and work up to running longer and more frequently. I look forward to warmer weather so I won't have to impose on my sweet friend, but in the mean time I so appreciate her kindness. She even holds Mason and lets my other two children run wild with her kids. I don't know about you, but I've never had a gym membership like that! Plus, I get to watch the DVR with all my favorite shows. It's great! And as if that's not enough, it makes it really hard for me not to go, because I would have to call and have a really good excuse and let's face it, I just don't want the shame of that phone call. So, I'm very optimistic that this will work out and maybe, just maybe, I will shed some of this baby weight!

On a totally different note, Keith text messaged me this morning telling me to call him ASAP. So, I did, of course, and he tells me that he hit a dear this morning on the way to work. YIKES! You should know that this is one of my fears and luckily Keith is okay and miraculously the dear is too. He said the car is beat up but still driveable (he made it to work anyway.) The bad part is that it will cost us 500 big ones to fix. It's always something, I tell ya. So, I am very thankful that my sweet husband is okay and I'll gladly give 500 dollars to the insurance company over my husband any day!

Also, I have failed to report that I bought a Wii! I know, how could I have forgot that? Anyway, I found it the day before I left for Utah, which I'm sure made Keith very happy. We went this past Saturday and bought a game for Jared (Lego Batman) and a game for the family (Mario Party 8.) I eventually want to get Rock Band 2, but that will have to wait (especially since Bambi hit the car.) Anyways, it has been a fun family activity and it is also good leverage when Jared is acting up. Currently, he is grounded from the Wii for 2 hours. I add an hour for bad behavior. It usually works pretty good at getting him to change his behavior.

I must also tell about my great deal at Target. First of all, you should know that I have been told to develop my talents for sewing in a blessing I was given. That being said, I have never been interested in sewing and did not really like sewing class, but I feel like I should give it a shot. So, while I was at Target to get a few things, I happened to check out the clearance stuff. This is what always gets me in trouble! I found a sewing machine in a beat-up box for $49.99. It was regular $200.00. I could tell that the box was still sealed and the only problem was the corner of the box was torn up. So, true to my character, I decided to buy it. I have set it up downstairs and have read the owner's manual. I have a couple friends who know about sewing and will at some point recruit one of them to come help me get this things up and running. I don't really know what I will make, but am hoping that some great talent lies within and I will become inspired. Who knows I may be able to make costumes and all kinds of fun stuff someday. I'll keep you posted.

Well that sums up the latest events. I'm doing laundry and some cleaning today. Nothing too exciting. Brittany is playing with her baby and Jared is watching some TV. I better go tell him his time is up and he can play Wii. That will make him smile.

I'm glad Keith's okay, but what about Bambi? Did he hobble off into the woods, or is he waiting for a road crew to scoop him up? :-)

I have a new sewing machine, too. Wanna have a sew-off? (In, say, 10 years when we've both had time to figure our machines out and learn to make some cool stuff.)

I too need to get off my butt and schedule some "ME" time. It is hard to find time to exercise with 5 kids and sooo much going on. Good luck with your goal. I am proud of you. I think you do look good after just having Mason. :o)

Good luck. I need some type of plan. Somehow working and sitting on my arse all day hasn't done anything for me :)
